ਕਬੀਰ ਜੀ ਘਰੁ ੧

Kabeer Jee, First House:

ਸੰਤੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਕਿਛੁ ਸੁਨੀਐ ਕਹੀਐ ॥

Meeting with a pious person, have thou some conversation with him.

ਮਿਲੈ ਅਸੰਤੁ ਮਸਟਿ ਕਰਿ ਰਹੀਐ ॥੧॥

But meeting with an impious person, remain thou mum.

ਬਾਬਾ ਬੋਲਨਾ ਕਿਆ ਕਹੀਐ ॥

O Father, If I speak, what words should I utter?

ਜੈਸੇ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਰਵਿ ਰਹੀਐ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

The such words, by which I may remain immersed in the Lord's Name. Pause.

ਸੰਤਨ ਸਿਉ ਬੋਲੇ ਉਪਕਾਰੀ ॥

Conversing with the saints, one becomes philanthropist.

ਮੂਰਖ ਸਿਉ ਬੋਲੇ ਝਖ ਮਾਰੀ ॥੨॥

To talk to a fool is to prate in vain.

ਬੋਲਤ ਬੋਲਤ ਬਢਹਿ ਬਿਕਾਰਾ ॥

By talking and speaking with the fools, the sin in one increases.

ਬਿਨੁ ਬੋਲੇ ਕਿਆ ਕਰਹਿ ਬੀਚਾਰਾ ॥੩॥

If I speak not, what can the wretch do me?

ਕਹੁ ਕਬੀਰ ਛੂਛਾ ਘਟੁ ਬੋਲੈ ॥

Says Kabir, an empty pitcher makes noise.

ਭਰਿਆ ਹੋਇ ਸੁ ਕਬਹੁ ਨ ਡੋਲੈ ॥੪॥੧॥

But that, which is full, gives not any sound ever.

ਗੋਂਡ ॥

Gond.

ਨਰੂ ਮਰੈ ਨਰੁ ਕਾਮਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ॥

When a man dies, he is of no avail to any man.

ਪਸੂ ਮਰੈ ਦਸ ਕਾਜ ਸਵਾਰੈ ॥੧॥

But when a beast dies, it serves ten purposes.

ਅਪਨੇ ਕਰਮ ਕੀ ਗਤਿ ਮੈ ਕਿਆ ਜਾਨਉ ॥

What do I know regarding the state of my destiny,

ਮੈ ਕਿਆ ਜਾਨਉ ਬਾਬਾ ਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

what can I know, O my father?. Pause.

ਹਾਡ ਜਲੇ ਜੈਸੇ ਲਕਰੀ ਕਾ ਤੂਲਾ ॥

Man's bones burn like the log of wood.

ਕੇਸ ਜਲੇ ਜੈਸੇ ਘਾਸ ਕਾ ਪੂਲਾ ॥੨॥

His hair burn like the bundle of grass.

ਕਹੁ ਕਬੀਰ ਤਬ ਹੀ ਨਰੁ ਜਾਗੈ ॥

Says Kabir, then alone does the man awake,

ਜਮ ਕਾ ਡੰਡੁ ਮੂੰਡ ਮਹਿ ਲਾਗੈ ॥੩॥੨॥

when the club of death strikes his head.

ਗੋਂਡ ॥

Gond.

ਆਕਾਸਿ ਗਗਨੁ ਪਾਤਾਲਿ ਗਗਨੁ ਹੈ ਚਹੁ ਦਿਸਿ ਗਗਨੁ ਰਹਾਇਲੇ ॥

The Lord is in the Sky. the Lord is in the earth beneath and in the four directions, the Lord abides.

ਆਨਦ ਮੂਲੁ ਸਦਾ ਪੁਰਖੋਤਮੁ ਘਟੁ ਬਿਨਸੈ ਗਗਨੁ ਨ ਜਾਇਲੇ ॥੧॥

The Sublime one is ever the root of bliss. Even when the body perishes, the Lord perishes not.

ਮੋਹਿ ਬੈਰਾਗੁ ਭਇਓ ॥

I am saddened by this thought,

ਇਹੁ ਜੀਉ ਆਇ ਕਹਾ ਗਇਓ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

whence this soul comes and whither it goes. Pause.

ਪੰਚ ਤਤੁ ਮਿਲਿ ਕਾਇਆ ਕੀਨੑੀ ਤਤੁ ਕਹਾ ਤੇ ਕੀਨੁ ਰੇ ॥

Uniting the five elements the body is formed but whence were the five elements created?

ਕਰਮ ਬਧ ਤੁਮ ਜੀਉ ਕਹਤ ਹੌ ਕਰਮਹਿ ਕਿਨਿ ਜੀਉ ਦੀਨੁ ਰੇ ॥੨॥

Thou sayest, that the soul is bound by its deeds but who has given life to the deeds?

ਹਰਿ ਮਹਿ ਤਨੁ ਹੈ ਤਨ ਮਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਹੈ ਸਰਬ ਨਿਰੰਤਰਿ ਸੋਇ ਰੇ ॥

The body is contained in God and God is in the body. He, the Lord, abides within all.

ਕਹਿ ਕਬੀਰ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਛੋਡਉ ਸਹਜੇ ਹੋਇ ਸੁ ਹੋਇ ਰੇ ॥੩॥੩॥

Says Kabir, I shall abandon not the Lord's Name, come what may naturally come.

ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥

There is but one God. By the True Guru's grace he is obtained.

ਰਾਗੁ ਗੋਂਡ ਬਾਣੀ ਕਬੀਰ ਜੀਉ ਕੀ ਘਰੁ ੨

ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥

There is but one God. By the True Guru's grace he is obtained.

ਭੁਜਾ ਬਾਂਧਿ ਭਿਲਾ ਕਰਿ ਡਾਰਿਓ ॥

They tied my arms, made me like a ball and threw me before an elephant.

ਹਸਤੀ ਕ੍ਰੋਪਿ ਮੂੰਡ ਮਹਿ ਮਾਰਿਓ ॥

Its driver struck the goad on the infuriated elephant's head.

ਹਸਤਿ ਭਾਗਿ ਕੈ ਚੀਸਾ ਮਾਰੈ ॥

The elephant runs away and cries,

ਇਆ ਮੂਰਤਿ ਕੈ ਹਉ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੈ ॥੧॥

I am a sacrifice into this Image of God.

ਆਹਿ ਮੇਰੇ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਤੁਮਰਾ ਜੋਰੁ ॥

Says Kabir "O my Lord, Thou art my strength ".

ਕਾਜੀ ਬਕਿਬੋ ਹਸਤੀ ਤੋਰੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

The Qazi shouts at the driver "Drive on the elephant". Pause.

ਰੇ ਮਹਾਵਤ ਤੁਝੁ ਡਾਰਉ ਕਾਟਿ ॥

O driver, I shall have thee cut into pieces.

ਇਸਹਿ ਤੁਰਾਵਹੁ ਘਾਲਹੁ ਸਾਟਿ ॥

Give him a blow and drive him on.

ਹਸਤਿ ਨ ਤੋਰੈ ਧਰੈ ਧਿਆਨੁ ॥

The elephant moves not and fixes his attention on the Lord.

ਵਾ ਕੈ ਰਿਦੈ ਬਸੈ ਭਗਵਾਨੁ ॥੨॥

Within his mind abides the Auspicious Lord.

ਕਿਆ ਅਪਰਾਧੁ ਸੰਤ ਹੈ ਕੀਨੑਾ ॥

What sin has this Saint committed,

ਬਾਂਧਿ ਪੋਟ ਕੁੰਚਰ ਕਉ ਦੀਨੑਾ ॥

that making him into a bundle, you have thrown him before an elephant", say the men.

ਕੁੰਚਰੁ ਪੋਟ ਲੈ ਲੈ ਨਮਸਕਾਰੈ ॥

Lifting up the bundle, the elephant makes obeisance unto it.

ਬੂਝੀ ਨਹੀ ਕਾਜੀ ਅੰਧਿਆਰੈ ॥੩॥

Even then the blind Qazi could comprehend it not.

ਤੀਨਿ ਬਾਰ ਪਤੀਆ ਭਰਿ ਲੀਨਾ ॥

Three times he carried out the test.

ਮਨ ਕਠੋਰੁ ਅਜਹੂ ਨ ਪਤੀਨਾ ॥

Even then his hard heart was not satisfied.

ਕਹਿ ਕਬੀਰ ਹਮਰਾ ਗੋਬਿੰਦੁ ॥

Says Kabir The Lord of the world is my Protector.

ਚਉਥੇ ਪਦ ਮਹਿ ਜਨ ਕੀ ਜਿੰਦੁ ॥੪॥੧॥੪॥

His slave's soul abides in the fourth state.

ਗੋਂਡ ॥

Gond.

ਨਾ ਇਹੁ ਮਾਨਸੁ ਨਾ ਇਹੁ ਦੇਉ ॥

It is neither man, nor it is demigod.

ਨਾ ਇਹੁ ਜਤੀ ਕਹਾਵੈ ਸੇਉ ॥

It is neither called a celibate, not the worshipper of Shiva.

ਨਾ ਇਹੁ ਜੋਗੀ ਨਾ ਅਵਧੂਤਾ ॥

Neither it is a Yogi, nor a renouncer.

ਨਾ ਇਸੁ ਮਾਇ ਨ ਕਾਹੂ ਪੂਤਾ ॥੧॥

Neither it has mother, nor is it any one's son.

ਇਆ ਮੰਦਰ ਮਹਿ ਕੌਨ ਬਸਾਈ ॥

Then who is it, that abides in this body temple?

ਤਾ ਕਾ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਕੋਊ ਪਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

Its limit no one can ever find. Pause.

ਨਾ ਇਹੁ ਗਿਰਹੀ ਨਾ ਓਦਾਸੀ ॥

Neither it is a house-holder, nor an anchoret.

ਨਾ ਇਹੁ ਰਾਜ ਨ ਭੀਖ ਮੰਗਾਸੀ ॥

Neither it is a king, nor a mumper.

ਨਾ ਇਸੁ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਨ ਰਕਤੂ ਰਾਤੀ ॥

It has no body, nor a particle of blood in it.

ਨਾ ਇਹੁ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਨੁ ਨਾ ਇਹੁ ਖਾਤੀ ॥੨॥

Neither it is Brahman, nor it is a Khatri.

ਨਾ ਇਹੁ ਤਪਾ ਕਹਾਵੈ ਸੇਖੁ ॥

It is not an ascetic, nor is it called a Sheikh.

ਨਾ ਇਹੁ ਜੀਵੈ ਨ ਮਰਤਾ ਦੇਖੁ ॥

Neither it lives, nor it is seen to die.

ਇਸੁ ਮਰਤੇ ਕਉ ਜੇ ਕੋਊ ਰੋਵੈ ॥

If some one weeps over its death;

ਜੋ ਰੋਵੈ ਸੋਈ ਪਤਿ ਖੋਵੈ ॥੩॥

whosoever weeps, he loses his honour.

ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਮੈ ਡਗਰੋ ਪਾਇਆ ॥

By Guru's grace, I have found the way.

ਜੀਵਨ ਮਰਨੁ ਦੋਊ ਮਿਟਵਾਇਆ ॥

My birth and death have both been erased.

ਕਹੁ ਕਬੀਰ ਇਹੁ ਰਾਮ ਕੀ ਅੰਸੁ ॥

Says Kabir, this soul is the Lord's offspring.

ਜਸ ਕਾਗਦ ਪਰ ਮਿਟੈ ਨ ਮੰਸੁ ॥੪॥੨॥੫॥

It is stable like the ink, which can be erased not from the paper.

Gond.

ਤੂਟੇ ਤਾਗੇ ਨਿਖੁਟੀ ਪਾਨਿ ॥

The threads are broken, and the size has run short.

ਦੁਆਰ ਊਪਰਿ ਝਿਲਕਾਵਹਿ ਕਾਨ ॥

The reeds shine over the door.

ਕੂਚ ਬਿਚਾਰੇ ਫੂਏ ਫਾਲ ॥

The poor brushes have gone to pieces.

ਇਆ ਮੁੰਡੀਆ ਸਿਰਿ ਚਢਿਬੋ ਕਾਲ ॥੧॥

On this lad's head, death has alighted.

ਇਹੁ ਮੁੰਡੀਆ ਸਗਲੋ ਦ੍ਰਬੁ ਖੋਈ ॥

This lad has lost all his wealth.

ਆਵਤ ਜਾਤ ਨਾਕ ਸਰ ਹੋਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

The coming and going of his associates has greatly tormented me. Pause.

ਤੁਰੀ ਨਾਰਿ ਕੀ ਛੋਡੀ ਬਾਤਾ ॥

He has given up the talk of his beam and shuttle.

ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਵਾ ਕਾ ਮਨੁ ਰਾਤਾ ॥

With the Lord's Name, his soul is imbued.

ਲਰਿਕੀ ਲਰਿਕਨ ਖੈਬੋ ਨਾਹਿ ॥

His daughter and sons have nothing to eat.

ਮੁੰਡੀਆ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਧਾਪੇ ਜਾਹਿ ॥੨॥

The shaven saints night and day go crammed.

ਇਕ ਦੁਇ ਮੰਦਰਿ ਇਕ ਦੁਇ ਬਾਟ ॥

One or two are in the house and one or two on the way.

ਹਮ ਕਉ ਸਾਥਰੁ ਉਨ ਕਉ ਖਾਟ ॥

We sleep on the floor and they on the cots.

ਮੂਡ ਪਲੋਸਿ ਕਮਰ ਬਧਿ ਪੋਥੀ ॥

They caress their heads and carry books in their waist-bands.

ਹਮ ਕਉ ਚਾਬਨੁ ਉਨ ਕਉ ਰੋਟੀ ॥੩॥

We get parched grams and they the loaves.

ਮੁੰਡੀਆ ਮੁੰਡੀਆ ਹੂਏ ਏਕ ॥

The shaven hermits and this lad have become all one.

ਏ ਮੁੰਡੀਆ ਬੂਡਤ ਕੀ ਟੇਕ ॥

These shaven ones are the support of the drowning.

ਸੁਨਿ ਅੰਧਲੀ ਲੋਈ ਬੇਪੀਰਿ ॥

Hearken, O blind and guideless Loi.

ਇਨੑ ਮੁੰਡੀਅਨ ਭਜਿ ਸਰਨਿ ਕਬੀਰ ॥੪॥੩॥੬॥

Kabir has hastened to the protection of these shaven saints.

ਗੋਂਡ ॥

Gond.

ਖਸਮੁ ਮਰੈ ਤਉ ਨਾਰਿ ਨ ਰੋਵੈ ॥

When the husband dies, then his wife weeps not.

ਉਸੁ ਰਖਵਾਰਾ ਅਉਰੋ ਹੋਵੈ ॥

Some one else becomes her protector.

ਰਖਵਾਰੇ ਕਾ ਹੋਇ ਬਿਨਾਸ ॥

When this care-taker dies,

ਆਗੈ ਨਰਕੁ ਈਹਾ ਭੋਗ ਬਿਲਾਸ ॥੧॥

he falls into the hell hereafter, for the sexual pleasure enjoyed here.

ਏਕ ਸੁਹਾਗਨਿ ਜਗਤ ਪਿਆਰੀ ॥

Mammon alone is dear to the world.

ਸਗਲੇ ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਕੀ ਨਾਰੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

Of all the sentient beings, she is the wife. Pause.

ਸੋਹਾਗਨਿ ਗਲਿ ਸੋਹੈ ਹਾਰੁ ॥

With necklace round her neck, mammon looks beauteous.

ਸੰਤ ਕਉ ਬਿਖੁ ਬਿਗਸੈ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ॥

She is as poison to the saint, but seeing her the world blooms.

ਕਰਿ ਸੀਗਾਰੁ ਬਹੈ ਪਖਿਆਰੀ ॥

Adorning herself, she sits like a prostitute.

ਸੰਤ ਕੀ ਠਿਠਕੀ ਫਿਰੈ ਬਿਚਾਰੀ ॥੨॥

Accursed of the saints, the wretch wanders about.

ਸੰਤ ਭਾਗਿ ਓਹ ਪਾਛੈ ਪਰੈ ॥

She runs after and pursues the saints.

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਮਾਰਹੁ ਡਰੈ ॥

She fears being beaten by the saints, who are recipients of the Guru's grace.

ਸਾਕਤ ਕੀ ਓਹ ਪਿੰਡ ਪਰਾਇਣਿ ॥

She is the body and very life of an apostate.

ਹਮ ਕਉ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਪਰੈ ਤ੍ਰਖਿ ਡਾਇਣਿ ॥੩॥

To me she seems to be my blood-thirsty witch.

ਹਮ ਤਿਸ ਕਾ ਬਹੁ ਜਾਨਿਆ ਭੇਉ ॥

I am well-acquainted with her secrets now,

ਜਬ ਹੂਏ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲ ਮਿਲੇ ਗੁਰਦੇਉ ॥

when becoming merciful my Guru-God has met me.

ਕਹੁ ਕਬੀਰ ਅਬ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਪਰੀ ॥

Says Kabir, I have now turned her out.

ਸੰਸਾਰੈ ਕੈ ਅੰਚਲਿ ਲਰੀ ॥੪॥੪॥੭॥

She has clung herself to the skirt of world.

ਗੋਂਡ ॥

Gond.

ਗ੍ਰਿਹਿ ਸੋਭਾ ਜਾ ਕੈ ਰੇ ਨਾਹਿ ॥

He, in whose house is not the glory of wealth,

ਆਵਤ ਪਹੀਆ ਖੂਧੇ ਜਾਹਿ ॥

the guest come and depart hungry therefrom.

ਵਾ ਕੈ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਨਹੀ ਸੰਤੋਖੁ ॥

Within his mind there is no contentment.

ਬਿਨੁ ਸੋਹਾਗਨਿ ਲਾਗੈ ਦੋਖੁ ॥੧॥

Without his bride, the wealth, he is afflicted with pain.

ਧਨੁ ਸੋਹਾਗਨਿ ਮਹਾ ਪਵੀਤ ॥ ਤਪੇ ਤਪੀਸਰ ਡੋਲੈ ਚੀਤ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

Hail unto mammon, that even the very pious persons,

ਸੋਹਾਗਨਿ ਕਿਰਪਨ ਕੀ ਪੂਤੀ ॥

Mammon is the miser's daughter.

ਸੇਵਕ ਤਜਿ ਜਗਤ ਸਿਉ ਸੂਤੀ ॥

Forsaking the Lord's slave, she sloops with the world.

ਸਾਧੂ ਕੈ ਠਾਢੀ ਦਰਬਾਰਿ ॥

Standing art the saints' door, she says,

ਸਰਨਿ ਤੇਰੀ ਮੋ ਕਉ ਨਿਸਤਾਰਿ ॥੨॥

she says, ""I have come to your sanctuary; now save me!""||2||

ਸੋਹਾਗਨਿ ਹੈ ਅਤਿ ਸੁੰਦਰੀ ॥

The bride is exceedingly beauteous.

ਪਗ ਨੇਵਰ ਛਨਕ ਛਨਹਰੀ ॥

Her ankle-ornaments tinkle on her feet.

ਜਉ ਲਗੁ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਤਊ ਲਗੁ ਸੰਗੇ ॥

So Long as man is alive, till then she remains attached with him.

ਨਾਹਿ ਤ ਚਲੀ ਬੇਗਿ ਉਠਿ ਨੰਗੇ ॥੩॥

When the life is extinct, she quickly gets up and departs bare-footed.

ਸੋਹਾਗਨਿ ਭਵਨ ਤ੍ਰੈ ਲੀਆ ॥

Mammon has conquered three worlds.

ਦਸ ਅਠ ਪੁਰਾਣ ਤੀਰਥ ਰਸ ਕੀਆ ॥

The eighteen Puranas and the places of Pilgrimage love her as well.

ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਬਿਸਨੁ ਮਹੇਸਰ ਬੇਧੇ ॥

She has pierced the hearts of Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva.

ਬਡੇ ਭੂਪਤਿ ਰਾਜੇ ਹੈ ਛੇਧੇ ॥੪॥

She has destroyed the great lords of earth and kings.

ਸੋਹਾਗਨਿ ਉਰਵਾਰਿ ਨ ਪਾਰਿ ॥

Mammon has no this or that shore.

ਪਾਂਚ ਨਾਰਦ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਬਿਧਵਾਰਿ ॥

She is in collusion with the five evil passions, who are mercurial like Narad.

ਪਾਂਚ ਨਾਰਦ ਕੇ ਮਿਟਵੇ ਫੂਟੇ ॥

When the earthen vessels of the five evil passions burst,

ਕਹੁ ਕਬੀਰ ਗੁਰ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਛੂਟੇ ॥੫॥੫॥੮॥

then says Kabir, man is delivered by the Guru's grace.

ਗੋਂਡ ॥

Gond.

ਜੈਸੇ ਮੰਦਰ ਮਹਿ ਬਲਹਰ ਨਾ ਠਾਹਰੈ ॥

As the house stays not, if the beams be removed from within it,

ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨਾ ਕੈਸੇ ਪਾਰਿ ਉਤਰੈ ॥

so without the Lord's Name how can one ferry across?

ਕੁੰਭ ਬਿਨਾ ਜਲੁ ਨਾ ਟੀਕਾਵੈ ॥

As without pitcher the water is held not,

ਸਾਧੂ ਬਿਨੁ ਐਸੇ ਅਬਗਤੁ ਜਾਵੈ ॥੧॥

similarly without the saint, man departs in a wretched plight.

ਜਾਰਉ ਤਿਸੈ ਜੁ ਰਾਮੁ ਨ ਚੇਤੈ ॥

Burn him who remembers not the Lord,

ਤਨ ਮਨ ਰਮਤ ਰਹੈ ਮਹਿ ਖੇਤੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

and whose mind remains absorbed in his body field. Pause.

ਜੈਸੇ ਹਲਹਰ ਬਿਨਾ ਜਿਮੀ ਨਹੀ ਬੋਈਐ ॥

As without a plough-man, land is not sown,

ਸੂਤ ਬਿਨਾ ਕੈਸੇ ਮਣੀ ਪਰੋਈਐ ॥

as beads can not be strung without a thread and a sans-loop,,

ਘੁੰਡੀ ਬਿਨੁ ਕਿਆ ਗੰਠਿ ਚੜ੍ਹਾਈਐ ॥

and a knot can not be fastened without twisting,

ਸਾਧੂ ਬਿਨੁ ਤੈਸੇ ਅਬਗਤੁ ਜਾਈਐ ॥੨॥

without the saints' grace, man departs unemancipated.

ਜੈਸੇ ਮਾਤ ਪਿਤਾ ਬਿਨੁ ਬਾਲੁ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥

As without mother and father, there can be no child,

ਬਿੰਬ ਬਿਨਾ ਕੈਸੇ ਕਪਰੇ ਧੋਈ ॥

as the clothes can not be washed without water,

ਘੋਰ ਬਿਨਾ ਕੈਸੇ ਅਸਵਾਰ ॥

and one can not be a rider without a horse,

ਸਾਧੂ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਦਰਵਾਰ ॥੩॥

so without the saint's grace one can not reach the Lord's court.

ਜੈਸੇ ਬਾਜੇ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਹੀ ਲੀਜੈ ਫੇਰੀ ॥

As without music there can be no dancing,

ਖਸਮਿ ਦੁਹਾਗਨਿ ਤਜਿ ਅਉਹੇਰੀ ॥

so rejected by the Spouse, the unchaste bride is dishonoured.

ਕਹੈ ਕਬੀਰੁ ਏਕੈ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਨਾ ॥

Says Kabir, do thou but one thing,

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਇ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਨਹੀ ਮਰਨਾ ॥੪॥੬॥੯॥

become thou resigned to Guru's will, thus thou shalt not die again.

Gond.

ਕੂਟਨੁ ਸੋਇ ਜੁ ਮਨ ਕਉ ਕੂਟੈ ॥

He alone is a bawd, who chastens his mind.

ਮਨ ਕੂਟੈ ਤਉ ਜਮ ਤੇ ਛੂਟੈ ॥

If man disciplines his mind, then escapes he from the death's courier.

ਕੁਟਿ ਕੁਟਿ ਮਨੁ ਕਸਵਟੀ ਲਾਵੈ ॥

One who by beating and thrashing his mind applies to it the touch-stone of the Lord's love,

ਸੋ ਕੂਟਨੁ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਬਹੁ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੧॥

that pander obtains perfect salvation.

ਕੂਟਨੁ ਕਿਸੈ ਕਹਹੁ ਸੰਸਾਰ ॥

In this world, whom do you call a procurer?

ਸਗਲ ਬੋਲਨ ਕੇ ਮਾਹਿ ਬੀਚਾਰ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

In everything that is spoken, discrimination ought to be used. Pause.

ਨਾਚਨੁ ਸੋਇ ਜੁ ਮਨ ਸਿਉ ਨਾਚੈ ॥

he alone is the dancer who dances with his mind.

ਝੂਠਿ ਨ ਪਤੀਐ ਪਰਚੈ ਸਾਚੈ ॥

The Lord is satisfied not with falsehood, but is pleased through truth alone.

ਇਸੁ ਮਨ ਆਗੇ ਪੂਰੈ ਤਾਲ ॥

With this soul of his, the dancer should beat time before the Lord.

ਇਸੁ ਨਾਚਨ ਕੇ ਮਨ ਰਖਵਾਲ ॥੨॥

Of such a dancer's soul, the Lord Himself is the Preserver.

ਬਜਾਰੀ ਸੋ ਜੁ ਬਜਾਰਹਿ ਸੋਧੈ ॥

He alone is a street-dancer, who cleanses his body street,

ਪਾਂਚ ਪਲੀਤਹ ਕਉ ਪਰਬੋਧੈ ॥

and instructs his five evil passions.

ਨਉ ਨਾਇਕ ਕੀ ਭਗਤਿ ਪਛਾਨੈ ॥

He who embraces the devotional service of the Lord of nine continents,

ਸੋ ਬਾਜਾਰੀ ਹਮ ਗੁਰ ਮਾਨੇ ॥੩॥

that buffoon I accept as my Guru.

ਤਸਕਰੁ ਸੋਇ ਜਿ ਤਾਤਿ ਨ ਕਰੈ ॥

A thief is he, who harbours not envy,

ਇੰਦ੍ਰੀ ਕੈ ਜਤਨਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਉਚਰੈ ॥

and who with the effort of his sense-organs utters the Lord's Name.

ਕਹੁ ਕਬੀਰ ਹਮ ਐਸੇ ਲਖਨ ॥

Says Kabir, I have so realised the qualities that,

ਧੰਨੁ ਗੁਰਦੇਵ ਅਤਿ ਰੂਪ ਬਿਚਖਨ ॥੪॥੭॥੧੦॥

very beauteous and wise is my Guru, God.

ਗੋਂਡ ॥

Gond.

ਧੰਨੁ ਗੁਪਾਲ ਧੰਨੁ ਗੁਰਦੇਵ ॥

Auspicious is the Lord and auspicious the Divine Guru.

ਧੰਨੁ ਅਨਾਦਿ ਭੂਖੇ ਕਵਲੁ ਟਹਕੇਵ ॥

Blessed is the Corn etc, by which the heart-lotus of the hungry blooms.

ਧਨੁ ਓਇ ਸੰਤ ਜਿਨ ਐਸੀ ਜਾਨੀ ॥

Hail unto those saints, who realise thus.

ਤਿਨ ਕਉ ਮਿਲਿਬੋ ਸਾਰਿੰਗਪਾਨੀ ॥੧॥

With them meets the Lord, the sustainer of the world.

ਆਦਿ ਪੁਰਖ ਤੇ ਹੋਇ ਅਨਾਦਿ ॥

From The Primal Lord wells up corn etc.

ਜਪੀਐ ਨਾਮੁ ਅੰਨ ਕੈ ਸਾਦਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

Then alone can the Name be repeated, if the mortal tastes the relish of corn. Pause.

ਜਪੀਐ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪੀਐ ਅੰਨੁ ॥

Contemplate thou the Lord's Name and think of his corn.

ਅੰਭੈ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਨੀਕਾ ਵੰਨੁ ॥

With water sublime becomes the colour (taste) of the corn.

ਅੰਨੈ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਜੋ ਨਰ ਹੋਵਹਿ ॥

The man, who abstains from corn,

ਤੀਨਿ ਭਵਨ ਮਹਿ ਅਪਨੀ ਖੋਵਹਿ ॥੨॥

he loses his honour in the three worlds.

ਛੋਡਹਿ ਅੰਨੁ ਕਰਹਿ ਪਾਖੰਡ ॥

She, who abandons corn, really practises hypocrisy.

ਨਾ ਸੋਹਾਗਨਿ ਨਾ ਓਹਿ ਰੰਡ ॥

She is neither the happy bride nor a window.

ਜਗ ਮਹਿ ਬਕਤੇ ਦੂਧਾਧਾਰੀ ॥

They who proclaim in the world that they live on milk alone,

ਗੁਪਤੀ ਖਾਵਹਿ ਵਟਿਕਾ ਸਾਰੀ ॥੩॥

secretly eat a whole two seers of eatables.

ਅੰਨੈ ਬਿਨਾ ਨ ਹੋਇ ਸੁਕਾਲੁ ॥

Without corn, time passes not in peace.

ਤਜਿਐ ਅੰਨਿ ਨ ਮਿਲੈ ਗੁਪਾਲੁ ॥

Abandoning corn, the Lord is met not.

ਕਹੁ ਕਬੀਰ ਹਮ ਐਸੇ ਜਾਨਿਆ ॥

Says Kabir, thus have I realised, that blest is the corn etc.

ਧੰਨੁ ਅਨਾਦਿ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨਿਆ ॥੪॥੮॥੧੧॥

by which my mind is propitiated with the Lord.

ਰਾਗੁ ਗੋਂਡ ਬਾਣੀ ਨਾਮਦੇਉ ਜੀ ਕੀ ਘਰੁ ੧

Rag Gond, Hymns of Namdev ji.

ਅਸੁਮੇਧ ਜਗਨੇ ॥

The performance of horse-sacrifice feast,

ਤੁਲਾ ਪੁਰਖ ਦਾਨੇ ॥

Giving of one's weight, in gold as alms,

ਪ੍ਰਾਗ ਇਸਨਾਨੇ ॥੧॥

and an ablution at praying.

ਤਉ ਨ ਪੁਜਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਿ ਨਾਮਾ ॥

Even these equal not the Hymning of the praise of the Lord's Name.

ਅਪੁਨੇ ਰਾਮਹਿ ਭਜੁ ਰੇ ਮਨ ਆਲਸੀਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

O slothful man, meditate thou on the Omnipresent Lords. Pause.

ਗਇਆ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਭਰਤਾ ॥

To offer rice-balls at Gaya,

ਬਨਾਰਸਿ ਅਸਿ ਬਸਤਾ ॥

to live on the bank of Asi rivulet near Kashi,

ਮੁਖਿ ਬੇਦ ਚਤੁਰ ਪੜਤਾ ॥੨॥

to recite the four Vedas by heart,

ਸਗਲ ਧਰਮ ਅਛਿਤਾ ॥

to practice all religious rites,

ਗੁਰ ਗਿਆਨ ਇੰਦ੍ਰੀ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਤਾ ॥

to restrain passions with the Guru given gnosis,

ਖਟੁ ਕਰਮ ਸਹਿਤ ਰਹਤਾ ॥੩॥

to live by performing six religious rituals,

ਸਿਵਾ ਸਕਤਿ ਸੰਬਾਦੰ ॥

and to dilate upon the discourses of Shiva and Parbati his wife.

ਮਨ ਛੋਡਿ ਛੋਡਿ ਸਗਲ ਭੇਦੰ ॥

O man, leave and forsake the all these different occupations.

ਸਿਮਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਗੋਬਿੰਦੰ ॥

Deliberate and meditate thou on the Lord of the Universe.

ਭਜੁ ਨਾਮਾ ਤਰਸਿ ਭਵ ਸਿੰਧੰ ॥੪॥੧॥

Contemplating Him, O Nama, thou shalt swim across the dreadful world-ocean.

ਗੋਂਡ ॥

Gond.

ਨਾਦ ਭ੍ਰਮੇ ਜੈਸੇ ਮਿਰਗਾਏ ॥

As the deer follows the sound of huntsman's bell,

ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਤਜੇ ਵਾ ਕੋ ਧਿਆਨੁ ਨ ਜਾਏ ॥੧॥

and gives up its own life, but ceases not to think of that;

ਐਸੇ ਰਾਮਾ ਐਸੇ ਹੇਰਉ ॥

in the same and likewise manner I see my Lord.

ਰਾਮੁ ਛੋਡਿ ਚਿਤੁ ਅਨਤ ਨ ਫੇਰਉ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

Forsaking the Lord, I turn not my mind to another. Pause.

ਜਿਉ ਮੀਨਾ ਹੇਰੈ ਪਸੂਆਰਾ ॥

As the fisherman gazes on the fish.

ਸੋਨਾ ਗਢਤੇ ਹਿਰੈ ਸੁਨਾਰਾ ॥੨॥

As the goldsmith steel gold while fashioning it.

ਜਿਉ ਬਿਖਈ ਹੇਰੈ ਪਰ ਨਾਰੀ ॥

As the lustful man gazes on another's woman,

ਕਉਡਾ ਡਾਰਤ ਹਿਰੈ ਜੁਆਰੀ ॥੩॥

and as the gambler marks the throwing of shell.

ਜਹ ਜਹ ਦੇਖਉ ਤਹ ਤਹ ਰਾਮਾ ॥

Similarly wherever Namdev sees, he perceives the Lord there.

ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਚਰਨ ਨਿਤ ਧਿਆਵੈ ਨਾਮਾ ॥੪॥੨॥

Namdev ever meditates upon the Lord's feet.

ਗੋਂਡ ॥

Gond.

ਮੋ ਕਉ ਤਾਰਿ ਲੇ ਰਾਮਾ ਤਾਰਿ ਲੇ ॥

Float me over, O Lord, float me over.

ਮੈ ਅਜਾਨੁ ਜਨੁ ਤਰਿਬੇ ਨ ਜਾਨਉ ਬਾਪ ਬੀਠੁਲਾ ਬਾਹ ਦੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

I am an unskillful man and know not how to swim O God, my dear Father, give Thou, me Thine arm. Pause.

ਨਰ ਤੇ ਸੁਰ ਹੋਇ ਜਾਤ ਨਿਮਖ ਮੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਬੁਧਿ ਸਿਖਲਾਈ ॥

The True Guru has granted me such an understanding, that from a man, I have becomes a deity in a trice.

ਨਰ ਤੇ ਉਪਜਿ ਸੁਰਗ ਕਉ ਜੀਤਿਓ ਸੋ ਅਵਖਧ ਮੈ ਪਾਈ ॥੧॥

I have obtained such a medicine, by which though begotten by man, I have conquered heaven.

ਜਹਾ ਜਹਾ ਧੂਅ ਨਾਰਦੁ ਟੇਕੇ ਨੈਕੁ ਟਿਕਾਵਹੁ ਮੋਹਿ ॥

Where Thou hast placed Dhru and Narad, there, O my Master, place Thou me.

ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਅਵਿਲੰਬਿ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਜਨ ਉਧਰੇ ਨਾਮੇ ਕੀ ਨਿਜ ਮਤਿ ਏਹ ॥੨॥੩॥

With the support of Thy Name, Good many people have been saved. This is Nama's own personal view.

ਗੋਂਡ ॥

Gond.

ਮੋਹਿ ਲਾਗਤੀ ਤਾਲਾਬੇਲੀ ॥

I am infested with restlessness.

ਬਛਰੇ ਬਿਨੁ ਗਾਇ ਅਕੇਲੀ ॥੧॥

Without her calf, the cow is lonely.

ਪਾਨੀਆ ਬਿਨੁ ਮੀਨੁ ਤਲਫੈ ॥

Without water a fish writhes.

ਐਸੇ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮਾ ਬਿਨੁ ਬਾਪੁਰੋ ਨਾਮਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

So is poor Namdev without the Lord's Name. Pause.

ਜੈਸੇ ਗਾਇ ਕਾ ਬਾਛਾ ਛੂਟਲਾ ॥

As the cow's calf, when untethered,

ਥਨ ਚੋਖਤਾ ਮਾਖਨੁ ਘੂਟਲਾ ॥੨॥

suckles her teats and drinks the milk.

ਨਾਮਦੇਉ ਨਾਰਾਇਨੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥

Similarly, Namdev has obtained the Lord.

ਗੁਰੁ ਭੇਟਤ ਅਲਖੁ ਲਖਾਇਆ ॥੩॥

Meeting the Guru, I have seen the unseen Lord.

ਜੈਸੇ ਬਿਖੈ ਹੇਤ ਪਰ ਨਾਰੀ ॥

As man loves another's woman for the sake of fornication,

ਐਸੇ ਨਾਮੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਮੁਰਾਰੀ ॥੪॥

so does Nama bear love to God, the Enemy of ego.

ਜੈਸੇ ਤਾਪਤੇ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਘਾਮਾ ॥

As man's body burns in the bright sunshine,

ਤੈਸੇ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮਾ ਬਿਨੁ ਬਾਪੁਰੋ ਨਾਮਾ ॥੫॥੪॥

so does poor Nama burns without the Name.

ਰਾਗੁ ਗੋਂਡ ਬਾਣੀ ਨਾਮਦੇਉ ਜੀਉ ਕੀ ਘਰੁ ੨

Gond, Hymns of Namdev ji.

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਕਰਤ ਮਿਟੇ ਸਭਿ ਭਰਮਾ ॥

Uttering the Lord's Name, all the doubts are dispelled.

ਹਰਿ ਕੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਲੈ ਊਤਮ ਧਰਮਾ ॥

The meditation of God's Name is the most sublime religion.

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਕਰਤ ਜਾਤਿ ਕੁਲ ਹਰੀ ॥

Uttering the Name of God, caste and lineage are effaced.

ਸੋ ਹਰਿ ਅੰਧੁਲੇ ਕੀ ਲਾਕਰੀ ॥੧॥

He, the Lord is the staff of the blind-man.

ਹਰਏ ਨਮਸਤੇ ਹਰਏ ਨਮਹ ॥

Unto God is my salutations and unto God my obeisance.

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਕਰਤ ਨਹੀ ਦੁਖੁ ਜਮਹ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

By repeating God's Name death tortures Not the Mortal. Pause.

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਨਾਖਸ ਹਰੇ ਪਰਾਨ ॥

God took the life of Harnakhash,

ਅਜੈਮਲ ਕੀਓ ਬੈਕੁੰਠਹਿ ਥਾਨ ॥

and made for Ajmal's place in heaven.

ਸੂਆ ਪੜਾਵਤ ਗਨਿਕਾ ਤਰੀ ॥

Teaching a parrot to utter the Lord's Name, the prostitute was saved.

ਸੋ ਹਰਿ ਨੈਨਹੁ ਕੀ ਪੂਤਰੀ ॥੨॥

That God is the apple of mine eyes.

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਕਰਤ ਪੂਤਨਾ ਤਰੀ ॥

Meditating on the Lord God, Putna was saved,

ਬਾਲ ਘਾਤਨੀ ਕਪਟਹਿ ਭਰੀ ॥

who was the destroyer of children and full of deceit.

ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦ੍ਰੋਪਦ ਸੁਤ ਉਧਰੀ ॥

Contemplating the Lord, Daropadi, the daughter of Daropad was emancipated.

ਗਊਤਮ ਸਤੀ ਸਿਲਾ ਨਿਸਤਰੀ ॥੩॥

Gautam's wife Ahilia, though turned into a stone was also saved.

ਕੇਸੀ ਕੰਸ ਮਥਨੁ ਜਿਨਿ ਕੀਆ ॥

The Lord who destroyed Kesi and Kans,

ਜੀਅ ਦਾਨੁ ਕਾਲੀ ਕਉ ਦੀਆ ॥

gave the gift of eternal life to kali, the serpent.

ਪ੍ਰਣਵੈ ਨਾਮਾ ਐਸੋ ਹਰੀ ॥

Prays Nama, such is my God,

ਜਾਸੁ ਜਪਤ ਭੈ ਅਪਦਾ ਟਰੀ ॥੪॥੧॥੫॥

by remembering whom dread and distress are dispelled.

ਗੋਂਡ ॥

Gond.

ਭੈਰਉ ਭੂਤ ਸੀਤਲਾ ਧਾਵੈ ॥

He who runs after sprite Bhairav and goddess Sitla,

ਖਰ ਬਾਹਨੁ ਉਹੁ ਛਾਰੁ ਉਡਾਵੈ ॥੧॥

he rides a donkey and scatters dust.

ਹਉ ਤਉ ਏਕੁ ਰਮਈਆ ਲੈਹਉ ॥

I take to the name of the One Lord alone.

ਆਨ ਦੇਵ ਬਦਲਾਵਨਿ ਦੈਹਉ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

I have given away all other goods in exchange for Him. Pause

ਸਿਵ ਸਿਵ ਕਰਤੇ ਜੋ ਨਰੁ ਧਿਆਵੈ ॥

The man, who uttering the Name of Shiva and worships him;

ਬਰਦ ਚਢੇ ਡਉਰੂ ਢਮਕਾਵੈ ॥੨॥

he rides on ox beats the tambourine.

ਮਹਾ ਮਾਈ ਕੀ ਪੂਜਾ ਕਰੈ ॥

He who adores Mahanmai,

ਨਰ ਸੈ ਨਾਰਿ ਹੋਇ ਅਉਤਰੈ ॥੩॥

is born as a woman instead of man.

ਤੂ ਕਹੀਅਤ ਹੀ ਆਦਿ ਭਵਾਨੀ ॥

Thou art called the primal goddess,

ਮੁਕਤਿ ਕੀ ਬਰੀਆ ਕਹਾ ਛਪਾਨੀ ॥੪॥

at the time of granting salvation, where did you hide thyself.

ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਗਹੁ ਮੀਤਾ ॥

Under the Guru instruction, O my friend Hold fast thou fast to the Lord's Name.

ਪ੍ਰਣਵੈ ਨਾਮਾ ਇਉ ਕਹੈ ਗੀਤਾ ॥੫॥੨॥੬॥

Prays Namdev so says the Geeta as well

ਬਿਲਾਵਲੁ ਗੋਂਡ ॥

Bilawal Gond.

ਆਜੁ ਨਾਮੇ ਬੀਠਲੁ ਦੇਖਿਆ ਮੂਰਖ ਕੋ ਸਮਝਾਊ ਰੇ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

Today I, Nama, have seen my Lord, so now I give instructions to the fool. Pause.

ਪਾਂਡੇ ਤੁਮਰੀ ਗਾਇਤ੍ਰੀ ਲੋਧੇ ਕਾ ਖੇਤੁ ਖਾਤੀ ਥੀ ॥

O Pandit, thy Gayatri used to graze on the field of a peasant Lodha by Name

ਲੈ ਕਰਿ ਠੇਗਾ ਟਗਰੀ ਤੋਰੀ ਲਾਂਗਤ ਲਾਂਗਤ ਜਾਤੀ ਥੀ ॥੧॥

Taking a stick, the peasant broke her leg and since then the walks lame.

ਪਾਂਡੇ ਤੁਮਰਾ ਮਹਾਦੇਉ ਧਉਲੇ ਬਲਦ ਚੜਿਆ ਆਵਤੁ ਦੇਖਿਆ ਥਾ ॥

O Pandit, I had seen thy great god Shiva, going along, riding a white bullock.

ਮੋਦੀ ਕੇ ਘਰ ਖਾਣਾ ਪਾਕਾ ਵਾ ਕਾ ਲੜਕਾ ਮਾਰਿਆ ਥਾ ॥੨॥

In the storekeeper's house a banquet for him was prepared an d he killed his son.

ਪਾਂਡੇ ਤੁਮਰਾ ਰਾਮਚੰਦੁ ਸੋ ਭੀ ਆਵਤੁ ਦੇਖਿਆ ਥਾ ॥

O Pandit, I had also seen coming along thy Ram Chandar,

ਰਾਵਨ ਸੇਤੀ ਸਰਬਰ ਹੋਈ ਘਰ ਕੀ ਜੋਇ ਗਵਾਈ ਥੀ ॥੩॥

having Lost his wife, he waged a war with Rawan

ਹਿੰਦੂ ਅੰਨੑਾ ਤੁਰਕੂ ਕਾਣਾ ॥

The Hindu is blind and the Muslim is one-eyed.

ਦੁਹਾਂ ਤੇ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਸਿਆਣਾ ॥

The Lord divine is the wiser of the two.

ਹਿੰਦੂ ਪੂਜੈ ਦੇਹੁਰਾ ਮੁਸਲਮਾਣੁ ਮਸੀਤਿ ॥

The Hindu worships at the temple and the Muslim at the mosquito.

ਨਾਮੇ ਸੋਈ ਸੇਵਿਆ ਜਹ ਦੇਹੁਰਾ ਨ ਮਸੀਤਿ ॥੪॥੩॥੭॥

Nama services that Lord, who has neither a temple, nor a mosque.

ਰਾਗੁ ਗੋਂਡ ਬਾਣੀ ਰਵਿਦਾਸ ਜੀਉ ਕੀ ਘਰੁ ੨

Rag Gond, Hymns of Ravidas Ji.

ਮੁਕੰਦ ਮੁਕੰਦ ਜਪਹੁ ਸੰਸਾਰ ॥

Meditate thou on thy God, the Dispenser of salvation, O man.

ਬਿਨੁ ਮੁਕੰਦ ਤਨੁ ਹੋਇ ਅਉਹਾਰ ॥

Without God, the Emancipator, thy body shalt be reduced to ashes.

ਸੋਈ ਮੁਕੰਦੁ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਕਾ ਦਾਤਾ ॥

He the Lord is the Bestower of salvation.

ਸੋਈ ਮੁਕੰਦੁ ਹਮਰਾ ਪਿਤ ਮਾਤਾ ॥੧॥

That Lord is my Father and mother.

ਜੀਵਤ ਮੁਕੰਦੇ ਮਰਤ ਮੁਕੰਦੇ ॥

Living remember thou the Lord and remembering thou the Lord, whilst dying.

ਤਾ ਕੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਕਉ ਸਦਾ ਅਨੰਦੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

His slave is ever in bliss. Pause.

ਮੁਕੰਦ ਮੁਕੰਦ ਹਮਾਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਨੰ ॥

The Lord Master is my very life.

ਜਪਿ ਮੁਕੰਦ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਨੀਸਾਨੰ ॥

Contemplating the Lord, thy forehead shall bear the in sign of approval.

ਸੇਵ ਮੁਕੰਦ ਕਰੈ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ॥

The renouncer serves Master.

ਸੋਈ ਮੁਕੰਦੁ ਦੁਰਬਲ ਧਨੁ ਲਾਧੀ ॥੨॥

I, the powerless one, have found that Emancipator as my wealth.

ਏਕੁ ਮੁਕੰਦੁ ਕਰੈ ਉਪਕਾਰੁ ॥

When the one Deliverer does me a favour,

ਹਮਰਾ ਕਹਾ ਕਰੈ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ॥

then, what can the world do unto me?

ਮੇਟੀ ਜਾਤਿ ਹੂਏ ਦਰਬਾਰਿ ॥

Effacing my caste, I have become the Lord's courtier.

ਤੁਹੀ ਮੁਕੰਦ ਜੋਗ ਜੁਗ ਤਾਰਿ ॥੩॥

Thou, O Lord, art Omnipotent to save the mortals in the ages.

ਉਪਜਿਓ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਹੂਆ ਪਰਗਾਸ ॥

The divine knowledge has welled up and I am knowledge enlightened.

ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਲੀਨੇ ਕੀਟ ਦਾਸ ॥

The Lord has mercifully made this worm as His slave.

ਕਹੁ ਰਵਿਦਾਸ ਅਬ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਚੂਕੀ ॥

Says Ravidas, my desire has now been quenched.

ਜਪਿ ਮੁਕੰਦ ਸੇਵਾ ਤਾਹੂ ਕੀ ॥੪॥੧॥

I contemplate my Lord and perform His service.

ਗੋਂਡ ॥

Gond.

ਜੇ ਓਹੁ ਅਠਸਠਿ ਤੀਰਥ ਨੑਾਵੈ ॥

If he bathes at sixty-eight place of pilgrimage,

ਜੇ ਓਹੁ ਦੁਆਦਸ ਸਿਲਾ ਪੂਜਾਵੈ ॥

If he worships the twelve shivlingam stones,

ਜੇ ਓਹੁ ਕੂਪ ਤਟਾ ਦੇਵਾਵੈ ॥

and if he dedicates a well and if he dedicates a well and a tank,

ਕਰੈ ਨਿੰਦ ਸਭ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਾਵੈ ॥੧॥

but if he slanders the saints then all in vain.

ਸਾਧ ਕਾ ਨਿੰਦਕੁ ਕੈਸੇ ਤਰੈ ॥

How can the saints' slanderer be ever saved?

ਸਰਪਰ ਜਾਨਹੁ ਨਰਕ ਹੀ ਪਰੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

Know thou for certain, that he shall fall into hell. Pause.

ਜੇ ਓਹੁ ਗ੍ਰਹਨ ਕਰੈ ਕੁਲਖੇਤਿ ॥

If he bathes at Kurukashetar at the time of eclipse,

ਅਰਪੈ ਨਾਰਿ ਸੀਗਾਰ ਸਮੇਤਿ ॥

if he makes an offering of his wife with decorations,

ਸਗਲੀ ਸਿੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਸ੍ਰਵਨੀ ਸੁਨੈ ॥

and hears with his ears all the Simirtis,

ਕਰੈ ਨਿੰਦ ਕਵਨੈ ਨਹੀ ਗੁਨੈ ॥੨॥

but if he practises slander, they are of no avail.

ਜੇ ਓਹੁ ਅਨਿਕ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦ ਕਰਾਵੈ ॥

If he gives many feasts to the needy,

ਭੂਮਿ ਦਾਨ ਸੋਭਾ ਮੰਡਪਿ ਪਾਵੈ ॥

makes gifts of land and buildings for public use,

ਅਪਨਾ ਬਿਗਾਰਿ ਬਿਰਾਂਨਾ ਸਾਂਢੈ ॥

and neglecting his own arranges other's affairs,

ਕਰੈ ਨਿੰਦ ਬਹੁ ਜੋਨੀ ਹਾਂਢੈ ॥੩॥

but if he practices slander, he wanders in many existences.

ਨਿੰਦਾ ਕਹਾ ਕਰਹੁ ਸੰਸਾਰਾ ॥

O people, why do you practise slander?

ਨਿੰਦਕ ਕਾ ਪਰਗਟਿ ਪਾਹਾਰਾ ॥

The hollowness of the slanderer is so exposed.

ਨਿੰਦਕੁ ਸੋਧਿ ਸਾਧਿ ਬੀਚਾਰਿਆ ॥

I have carefully considered the calumniator's destiny.

ਕਹੁ ਰਵਿਦਾਸ ਪਾਪੀ ਨਰਕਿ ਸਿਧਾਰਿਆ ॥੪॥੨॥੧੧॥੭॥੨॥੪੯॥ ਜੋੜੁ ॥

Says Ravidas, he is a sinner, and goes to hell.
